The Fremont Farmers Market is a free fruit and vegetable distribution event in partnership with UMMA, LAUSD, The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust and Food Forward’s Wholesale Recovery program. The Market is held at the Fremont Wellness Center and Community Garden in South Los Angeles.
Held twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, volunteers are needed for two shifts: 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM and 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM.
Volunteers will be assigned various roles on site, from checking-in partnering organization/community members, crowd navigation, setting up market display, assisting with loading produce into agency vehicles, sorting, organizing, and cleaning produce, documenting weight of produce, participating in composting efforts, cleaning market equipment, etc. (Roles may be rotated throughout shifts) Volunteers should be comfortable standing for long periods of time and carrying boxes up to 40 pounds.
This volunteer opportunity is open to adults (18+ years) and minors accompanied by a guardian. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in promoting good health and nutrition and a general concern for food justice issues.
