The Fremont Farmers Market is a free fruit and vegetables distribution event in partnership with the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust held at the Fremont Wellness Center and Community Garden. Volunteers are needed to sort, organize, and clean produce provided by Food Forward’s Wholesale Recovery program.
Held twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month beginning March. 14, 2018. Volunteers are needed for flexible 3-4 hour shifts from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
Volunteers will be assigned various roles on site, from checking-in partnering organization/community members, crowd navigation, setting up market display, assisting with loading produce into agency vehicles, documenting weight of produce, participating in composting efforts, cleaning market equipment, etc. (Roles can be rotated throughout the day) Volunteers should be comfortable standing for long periods of time, carrying boxes up to 40 pounds, and sorting out good produce from compostable produce.
This volunteer opportunity is open to adults (18+ years) dedicated to serving the community. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in promoting good health, well-being and nutrition and a concern for food justice issues.
