A Helping Hand is a nonprofit serving the Durham and Chapel Hill area, with a mission to promote self-sufficiency, quality of life, and the highest level of independence for older adults and individuals with disabilities. We offer a pre-health service learning internship three times a year, during the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Interns will be matched with 3 clients each week, and assist them with transportation, errands, in-home tasks, light housekeeping, and meal preparation. In addition to one-on-one work with local older adults and adults with disabilities, interns will also receive valuable training on a variety of topics relevant to the population we serve. The internship involves a time commitment of 8-10 hours per week plus commuting to clients' homes in the Chapel Hill and Durham area, and interns must complete 90 service hours in total. A car is required for this internship.
