Mission
To provide the necessities of life to our neighbors in need.
About Daystar
Most of our clients live below the federal poverty level. They are the working poor or unemployed. We help individuals and families who are food-insecure; struggling to stay in their home, in transitional housing, or homeless. They may be elderly, veterans, or recently released from incarceration. Florida’s economy is growing stronger but tourism remains the state’s main business. Many workers in that sector are employed seasonally and receive no health insurance, pension, or other benefits. Our clients may work multiple jobs but still find themselves short at the end of the month.
Volunteer at Daystar
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Daystar. Thanks to our loyal core of over 200 volunteers, we have a very small paid staff and were able to devote 95% of our income last year to program services.
We need volunteers every weekday and for special events. You can donate your time and talents at Daystar a day or more a week, or for a one-time event. We welcome back our "snowbird" volunteers whenever they’re in town. We can accommodate your schedule!
At Daystar volunteers greet clients at the front desk, sort the mail for clients who use our address to keep their mail secure, answer our phones, and perform general office duties. Pantry workers are busy everyday receiving food, stocking shelves, and packing bags of food for hungry clients to take home. If you have computer skills, you can help us track the services we provide to our clients. If your passion is to help clients face-to-face we will train you to conduct the confidential interview that is the first step in assessing and meeting their needs. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program operates by appointment year-round in the evening and Saturday morning. You can participate in the program by completing the IRS training.

Mission Statement
The purpose of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Pinellas County (RSVP) is to create meaningful opportunities for persons 55 years of age and above to participate more fully in the life of their community through volunteer service.
Description
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 years and over. You can use the skills and talents you’ve learned over the years, or develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities within your community.
We strengthen the communities we serve by addressing identified significant local needs, such as homelessness, food insecurity, aging in place for seniors, children in welfare and safety programs, and veterans and military families. RSVP takes the guesswork out of volunteering by partnering with a variety of nonprofit agencies in Pinellas County to help you find the right fit for your volunteer service. You choose where, when, and how often you want to spend your time!
Benfits of RSVP include: mileage reimbursement for travel to and from your volunteer station, accident and personal liability insurance, small death benefit while performing volunteer duties, volunteer recognition events, socialization with peers, and personal growth. Oh, and did we mention, the ability to make a lasting difference on those in need?
