The goal of our Athlete Leadership Program is to empower athletes to develop leadership skills and utilize their voices and abilities to assume meaningful leadership roles, influence change within the Special Olympics movement, and create inclusive communities around the world. A mentor works one-on-one with an athlete to develop skills by attending a weekend training session and then completing a minimum of three assignments within a year.

Mission Statement
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Description
Our 150 athletes, ranging in age from 8 to 70, train in 13 different sports in several locations in the Adams County area, as well as in Hanover. Our athletes participate in local and three state level competitions every year. Some of our athletes have traveled to National as well as World Games.
