Help give high school students a financial "reality check"

ORGANIZATION: Center for Financial Empowerment

Have you ever wished someone had taught you about money before you made costly mistakes?

We give high school students a financial "reality check" with a hands-on simulation activity called MAD CITY MONEY. It gives youth a taste of the real world - complete with a career, salary, spouse, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. During the simulation they must select housing, transportation, food, clothing, child care - all while staying within a budget. Teens experience unexpected bonuses and unplanned expenses, just like real life. They write checks and use debit cards for their purchases, and must balance their checkbooks and their budgets.

Community residents can help by playing the roles of Mad City Merchants at the event. This is your chance to help give today's youth the financial preparation many adults never had! Online training is provided.
