The Global Language Network is an official 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization whose mission is to connect people by providing language and culture learning opportunities within their communities.

We are looking for a dedicated and reliable volunteer to join our team as GLN Assistants on a weekly basis at our partner location, WeWork White House. As a GLN Assistant, you would commit to volunteering 8 hours each week for the 12 remaining weeks of the spring semester (February 19 - May 13) to represent the GLN and assist classes and teachers. This position requires you to be available each week on Sundays from 10:30AM-6:00PM. In exchange for volunteering weekly, you would receive a free language class with priority registration (a $395 value) and you would have access to a free WeWork membership (a $1,225 value) for the 12 weeks that you would be volunteering with us. You can utilize a hot desk in that space (and the amenities that come with it) as often as you would like until the end of the semester.
If you are able to commit to the entire spring semester and are interested in this volunteer opportunity, then please respond to this listing by Wednesday, February 14.

We look forward to hearing from you!

About The Global Language Network

Location:

1720 I St NW, 7th floor, Washington, DC 20006, US

Mission Statement

The Global Language Network (GLN) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization founded by Andrew Brown in 2005 whose mission is to provide opportunities to learn any language at a minimal cost. We recruit and train native speakers who volunteer their time to teach their language and share their culture with the DC community. Our affordable classes in 62 different languages build learners' communicative competence and enable them to communicate with others in meaningful and culturally appropriate ways.

Description

GLN makes language learning easy, enjoyable and effective: we create a comfortable environment where students have direct experiences with the target language and culture. We engage them and build their competence and confidence to communicate with others in meaningful and appropriate ways.

GLN teaches language through culture and culture through language because by studying languages people gain knowledge and understanding of the cultures that use that language, and in fact, cannot truly master the language until having also mastered the cultural contexts in which the language occurs.
