Do you want some active relief from your daily routine? Get your hands dirty for a good cause!

Community Forklift is looking for able-bodied volunteers with daytime availabilty during the week to assist with donation pickups and small deconstruction projects. Our donations team sometimes needs extra hands to salvage the building materials that are offered to us. Your support could help our crew save items like vintage bricks, lumber, and more from going to the landfill.

Donation pickups involve loading salvaged building materials and furniture onto our trucks, sometimes under less than optimal conditions. Deconstruction project may involve use of hammers, pry bars, power drills, and sawzalls (depending on experience) for the removal of interior trim, flooring, doors, cabinets, and other nonstructural items.

A strong back, the ability to lift 40 lbs on a repetitive basis, sturdy work boots, and a good attitude are required. Construction experience is preferred for deconstruction projects.

If this sounds like fun, and you're interested in joining a team of on-call donations volunteers, please contact us! You will be invited to assist with donation pickups on a biweekly basis or as they arise.

Mission Statement

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center that lifts up our local communities in many ways! We make repairs and renovation more affordable for homeowners, nonprofits, small businesses, and everyone else in the DC metro region. Our environmental impact is twofold: not only do we reduce waste by saving these materials from landfills and promoting reuse, but in turn we reduce the mining and harvesting of dwindling natural resources as well. The Forklift has also added 45 "green collar" jobs to the local economy, provides free public education about sustainability and green living, and donates materials free-of-cost to neighbors in need and local community groups.

Description

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement supplies. We accept donations of surplus and salvaged building materials throughout the metro DC region and make these items available to the public at low cost.
