Girls on the Run DC

Girls on the Run - DC is a life-changing, positive youth empowerment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We welcome enthusiastic, dedicated and positive volunteers who are committed to empowering girls with valuable life lessons to serve as Community Coaches for our Spring 2018 program.

We are recruiting three Community Coaches for a team of 8-15 girls in Oxon Hill, MD! Below are details about the volunteer opportunity. If interested, please email grace@gotrdc.org to learn more!

What you will be doing:
Alongside other Coaches, you will deliver our pre-written lessons that cover topics such as self-acceptance, confidence, compassion for others, intentional decision-making, and goal setting to a team of 8-15 girls. Each lesson creatively incorporates running so that girls can work towards their goal of running a 5K at Freedom Plaza the end of the season.

Location:
Oxon Hill, MD 20745 - actual address to be disclosed during application process.

Practice schedule: Mondays and Fridays from 3:00pm-4:30pm.

Dates of the program: Starts the week of September 10th and ends with the celebratory 5K on Sunday, November 18th, at Anacostia Park in Washington, DC!

We have two requirements for our Community Coaches: commit to working with a group of girls for two practices a week throughout the 10-week season and bring energy and joy to each practice!

As a Community Coach, here are a few things to keep in mind:

- All new Community Coaches must attend a 4 hour in-person training on August 25th or September 8th in addition to completing a 1-hour online training prior to in-person training.

- You are committing to volunteer 75-90 minutes, two times per week for 10 weeks, with additional time needed for the 5K.

We hope to get you involved! Please email grace@gotrdc.org to learn more!
