The Corner Community Center and the Freelancers Union are seeking workshop co-leaders for Baltimore SPARK (the local chapter of the Freelancers Union). Co-leaders help to develop and deliver content and facilitate discussions at SPARK on the First Wednesdays of the month at the Corner Community Center, 6:00-8:00 pm. The Freelancers Union provides a curriculum for co-leaders to use, which can be edited to make it more relevant for Baltimore attendees.

About the Freelancers' Union
Freelancers Union is the largest and fast-growing organization representing the 57 million independent workers across the country. We give our 350,000+ members a powerful voice through policy advocacy, benefits, and community.

Membership is free and open to freelancers of all kinds, from graphic designers to contractors to entrepreneurs to moonlighters. Freelancers Union offers:

      • Benefits such as health, dental, term life, disability, and liability insurance

      • Community, including SPARK, local freelance hubs in nearly 25 major cities

      • Advocacy for policy change, such as the annual Freelancing in America survey and the Freelance Isn’t Free campaign

      • Resources, including the #1 blog for freelancers

The Freelancers Union was founded by Sara Horowitz in 1995. In 2008, we launched Freelancers Insurance Company, the first portable benefits model for freelancers, providing independent workers with high-quality, affordable, and portable health insurance. The union’s National Benefits Platform, launched in 2014, helps freelancers across America access benefits, including retirement, life, liability, dental and disability insurance.

Since its founding, Freelancers Union has fought for and won protections for freelance workers, including Unincorporated Business Tax reform and successfully advocating for new models for health care. In 2016, Freelancers Union led a victorious campaign to enact first-of-its kind legislation in New York City giving freelancers unprecedented protections from nonpayment.

Mission Statement

To enrich our community by providing a facility for worship, arts, education, recreation, and celebration for personal and collective growth.

Description

You might know the building as your polling place or as your Girl Scout cookie- sorting place. Perhaps you are already a participant in one of the many organizations that use the space, such as the Baltimore Musicales or Children’s Village.

The Corner Community Center (CCC) wants to enhance and expand the use of this building and grounds at 5802 Roland Avenue. in order to enrich your opportunities to network with your neighbors, to learn about environmental changes you can make to your homes and yards to lessen run-off to the Chesapeake Bay, to offer speakers and programs that deal with concerns you have about our city, and to offer spaces for meetings or programs that you want to offer to the neighborhood - just to get started with the possibilities!

The Baltimore Job Hunters Support Group (BJHSG) is one of the 24 groups that meets at CCC. BJHSG, a volunteer-led group that provides emotional and spiritual support to the unemployed, is expanding to include a formal program of coaching, advocacy, counseling, mutual mentoring, volunteering, and connection to resources, for all persons seeking employment search assistance, with emphasis on long-term unemployed workers (defined as those who have been seeking employment for 6 months or more without success) affected by the Great Recession and those who are age 45-50+ workers. We have a variety of dynamic volunteer positions that will support our program expansion efforts.
