Oakland Catholic Worker is Recruiting Volunteer ESL Teachers!
The spring semester of ESL classes at Oakland Catholic Worker will run from Monday, March 12th to Friday, May 4th. If you are interested in teaching during this time, please respond to a quick six question survey by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 2nd with your availability: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3FGJVJ7. We are looking for enthusiastic teachers with preferably some Spanish skills. Volunteers will be asked to teach once a week. Classes are offered in the morning and in the evening.
Just as in previous semesters, lesson plans and work sheets will be provided by OCW. Each class will be assigned two teachers. The Oakland Catholic Worker serves members of the Latin American immigrant and refugee community as they establish themselves in our East Oakland neighborhood. We provide temporary housing and accompaniment, hot meals, groceries, English classes, cultural events, and other services to people in need. In solidarity with those we serve, we struggle to change the unjust structures of our society through social activism.

We are a community of North Americans living in solidarity with Latin American migrants and refugees. Our mission is one of living simply and communally with multicultural volunteers and guests, helping those most in need in East Oakland community, supporting an extended community of former guests in keeping itself organized and healthy, and advocating for the elimination of unjust structures locally and globally.
Description
The Oakland Catholic Worker has served as a transitional shelter and accompaniment program for Latin American refugees since 1986. In addition we serve our East Oakland neighbors in need by offering:
- English as a Second Language classes
- Hot food and weekly grocery distribution programs
- A gathering space for the religious and cultural needs of our extended community
- Advocacy promoting change with those marginalized by existing unjust political, social and economic structures
