Oakland School Volunteers

We are looking for writing mentors (don’t get scared- you can be a writing mentor if you can write, at least a little). You do not need to be an expert in writing, just be willing to sit down with a student and give them one-on-one support. You will be supporting a student in synthesizing the feedback they received from their teacher, through a reflective process around their strengths and weaknesses in writing, as well as giving further feedback to support continued growth. March 9th, 11:00 am-3:00 pm 11-11:15 Orientation: overview of paper, revision process and rubric 11:15-12:30 Preparation for Student Conference 12:30-1:00 Lunch Break (bring your own lunch) 1:00-1:45 Meet with Student #1 1:45-2:00 Break 2:00-2:45 Meet with Student #2 2:45-3:00 Closing- Exit slip

Mission Statement

The Oakland Public Education Fund leads the development and investment of community resources in Oakland public schools so that all students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Description

The Ed Fund is the only organization raising money for all Oakland public schools. Since 2003, we have raised more than $50 million for programs that help students thrive. We put the right tools in students’ hands to give all kids the excellent education they deserve.

We support all Oakland public schools-both District-run and charter-with a focus on those furthest from opportunity, because kids who come to school with less need more.

The Ed Fund builds partnerships that make our schools stronger. Whether it’s finding a funder for a big District project or a bringing a group of volunteers to a school to read with kids, we are committed to connecting the wider community to our public schools. Put simply, we feel our public schools are better when we all work together.
