The Immigrants’ Rights Project at Public Counsel seeks a female volunteer Tigrinian speaker to assist with an asylum case. Must be fluent in Tigrinian and English. The time commitment would consist of two trips (subject to your availability) between now and the end of April to the Musick Detention Facility in Irvine, California, with an attorney from Public Counsel. Each meeting with the client would last between 1-2 hours.

Description

Founded in 1970, Public Counsel is the public interest law office of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations. It is also the Southern California affiliate of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.Public Counsel's six law projects include legal specialties in Community Development and nonprofit law; Child Care law; Children's Rights including adoptions, guardianships, and dependent children's tort claims; Consumer Fraud including bankruptcy, home equity abuse and loan fraud; Homelessness Prevention serving youth, veterans and individuals seeking general relief; and Immigrants' Rights law with a focus on asylum and cases that invoke the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
