College student volunteers price donated hardware

The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources takes in donations of reusable building materials and makes them available at affordable prices so lower-income homeowners can keep their homes in good repair. This also helps the environment by keeping reusable materials out of the landfill.

Boston Building Resources is looking for self-directed volunteers to help process donated building and other materials at our Resource Center. Volunteers can expect a varied, dynamic, and swiftly paced workflow. You never know what sort of interesting donations are going to walk through the door! We routinely see a wide range of building materials, hardware, antiques, tools, and all manner of interesting things. The work includes sorting, cleaning, researching, pricing, and moving items to the sales floor. Volunteers will be trained on our pricing policies and can expect opportunities for creative thinking, problem solving, and collaborative projects. Shifts are dependent on availability and staffing. Must be comfortable standing on their feet for a period of time and able to lift 20 lbs.

Learn about new and interesting materials in a relaxed and easy-going environment.

About Boston Building Resources

Location:

100 TERRACE ST, ROXBURY, MA 02120, US

Mission Statement

To be the place for homeowners and renovators to make a positive impact on their communities and the environment as they care for and improve their homes.

Description

The Reuse Center accepts donations of good-quality used and surplus building materials and sells them at low prices, with extra discounts for low- and moderate-income customers and nonprofit organizations. Because materials are priced low to remain affordable, income from sales does not cover all our operating costs.

Having access to affordable materials from the Reuse Center at BBR makes it possible for low- and moderate-income homeowners to repair and care for their homes on limited budgets, and, as a result, to improve their lives and neighborhoods. By diverting perfectly good materials from landfills and delivering them into the hands of homeowners and nonprofits, we reduce the construction industry’s burden on the solid waste stream and benefit the environment.

The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources is a project of the Boston Building Materials Co-op Charitable & Educational Fund.
