Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College (FDLTCC) is located in Cloquet, Minnesota. The VISTA member placed at our organization will develop the Farm and Agricultural Learning Center to help improve on FDLTCC’s Food Sovereignty Initiative, a program meant to reduce the Tribe’s dependency on external food systems and enhance Tribal member’s ability to adapt to anticipated changes in food resources. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform capacity building services and work to develop sustainable systems and processes. The VISTA member will play an important role in ending poverty through the development of this learning center, support of the Food Sovereignty Coordinating Committee, and community needs assessments to find untapped resources for enhanced community resiliency. As a VISTA member with our organization, you will be part of a cohort of members in Tribal organizations across the country working on similar projects. You will gain the once-in-a-lifetime experience of building on cultural competency and stakeholder engagement, all while building capacity in a community that needs your help!

Member Duties : As a VISTA member with our program, you will help build capacity by engaging stakeholders in food sovereignty initiatives that effectively manage natural resources. You will develop important professional abilities, such as resource development, project management, and community outreach. Major functions will include coordination of Food Sovereignty Committee, development of agricultural resource management plan, and a community needs assessment surrounding anticipated environmental changes and their effect on natural resources. Applicant should hold a four-year degree in project management or similar, or four years of relevant work experience, or some combination thereof. The applicant should be self-motivated, possess strong writing skills, and have a passion for increasing agricultural capacity. The applicant should also have experience with project planning and the ability to work within diverse communities.
