Be The Match Houston is trying to build up our volunteer program. We work with patients and their families that are facing a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. Most of our patients are cancer patients (leukemia, lymphoma), but there are a multitude of illnesses that are cured by transplant, such as aplastic anemia, sickle cell disease, and genetic disorders that affect the blood or immune system.

Our primary goal is to educate and recruit donors in the community. We are looking for people who want to help make a difference by encouraging others to register to become a donor and guide them through the registration process. We hold registration and community education events all over South East Texas, from Nacogdoches to Galveston and in the state of Louisiana! This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who is a "people person" and is able to talk to a stranger! Events can be health fairs, college campuses, festivals, etc.

Not a people person?!? Not to worry! We also have in-office needs that volunteers help us with! Volunteering can include helping file and organizing paperwork, calling donors to ensure commitment, and following-up with recent registrants to ensure donor form completeness.

Our volunteer activities are very flexible, volunteers are welcome to help as frequently or as short as their time allows. Most of our events are kid friendly, in fact most of us will bring our kiddos to help from time to time, so there isn't necessarily an age range or limitation if you can't find someone to watch your kids, in most cases!
