The Children's Museum of Richmond, a not-for-profit organization, exists to create innovative learning experiences for all children and those who support them that inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers. The Children's Museum of Richmond will foster a community that recognizes and appreciates that children grow and learn through play. The Central Virginia Children’s Book Bank aims to put age appropriate books directly into the hands of children who need them and giving the opportunity of book ownership. Sixty-one percent of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children. The Central Virginia Children’s Book Bank wants to change that statistic. By providing books, the Book Bank give opportunities for children to read and be read to, which is an important tool in improving school readiness for prekindergarten-aged children and enhancing literacy in school-aged children.
We are currently looking for skilled volunteers to assist in our Book Bank. Volunteers will sort through donations of books by quality and grade level. We are looking for volunteers who are familiar with reading levels of students and are organized.
We ask all volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 shifts a month for at least 6 months. Typically, each volunteer shift is 2 hours long. All volunteers must complete an orientation, offered once a month, before beginning service.
*The Children's Museum of Richmond does not currently accept volunteers
