TeamMates is a strengths-based mentoring program, equipping mentors to help students discover their individual strengths and talents and identifying opportunities for them to build on the ways that they are uniquely awesome. Many people think that TeamMates is for students who are at risk, but we encourage all students to join our program. TeamMates is completely school based, meaning you only meet at school or school functions.

Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one time per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person., giving their mentee a sense of hope, purpose, and vision. TeamMates currently provides a mentor for over 8,000 youth across Nebraska, Iowa and Wyoming. The mission of TeamMates is to positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring.

TeamMates mentors have a significant impact on the youth they meet with each week. Students generally see their absences and behavioral incidents decrease while seeing an improvement in their course performance.

Another reason to join TeamMates is the amount of scholarships provided to students involved in the program. Post-secondary education and training is expensive and TeamMates is working to ease the burden of continuing education for our mentees. Through the generosity of donors and partnerships with community colleges and universities throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri.

We are in need of caring adults to mentor students in North Platte Public Schools and North Platte Catholic Schools. Mentoring consists of volunteering ? hour once a week, going into the schools and meeting a student during their lunch or study hall. We will match you with a student who has similar likes and dislikes. We have several students on a waiting list and need you to join our team of mentors.

If you have any questions about TeamMates, or if you would like to mentor contact Molly Morales at 308-520-1241 or at mmorales@nppsd.org.
