Our US military service members are very thankful for the care packages they receive while deployed. However, many women in the Armed Forces also wish they could receive packages more specifically geared for them. Operation Courage is Beautiful, a 501(c)3 non-profit, fulfills that wish by sending care packages full of women’s personal care products (e.g. soap, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene), women’s magazines and notes of encouragement and appreciation. Many recipients tell us that we have sent the "best" care package they have ever received.
We are seeking passionate, skilled, dedicated volunteers to join our board in support of the mission of Operation Courage is Beautiful: "To bring a little joy and femininity to our active duty, deployed, US servicewomen through care packages geared for women." Experience with the military is recommended but not required.
Operation Courage is Beautiful is a volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit. Since starting our program, we have sent over 30 tons of products to locations across the globe. In the last two years, we have sent over 2000 care packages and have worked in partnership with local businesses such as Qualcomm and Genentech, local high schools and service organizations. We receive in-kind and monetary donations locally and across the nation.
This is a great opportunity to not only support our service members but also meet other service-oriented people, express your gratitude and patriotism, work with diverse volunteers, use your creativity, put on events, and further develop your skills. It is a very rewarding experience!
Aside from administrative duties, such as the maintenance of non-profit status, by-laws and tax filings, our board supports packaging events and committees in the following areas: fundraising, sponsorship, event planning, marketing/outreach, and donation solicitation. These committees support and work in conjunction with the Executive Director, a volunteer who executes the day-to-day correspondence, event coordination and overall organizational management. Note that participation in packaging events may be very physically demanding.
Board members should live in the San Diego area, preferably in the near vicinity of the 92129 zip code so as to best support our work.
Board meetings are held once every quarter. Committees meet as needed. Board membership is established annually on a calendar year. Our busiest time of the year is in July and the Fall/Winter.
In your comment (or attachment), let us know: (1) why you want to join our board (2) how you think you can help our mission (3) your past pertinent experience (or resume/linkedin profile) (4) your best contact phone number (5) your email address. We would like to finalize our search by the end of February.
Thank you for your interest!
On behalf of the Board of Operation Courage is Beautiful, we look forward to meeting you!
