Dome installation

Tampa Bay Watch is recruiting volunteers to install oyster domes on the shoreline of MacDill Air Force Base on March 1 & 2 from 9am - noon on each day. This project involves heavy lifting of approximately 75 pounds, as each oyster dome weighs around 150 pounds. Each dome will be installed with two people sharing the weight and unloading the domes from a trailer onto the shoreline.

The goal of Tampa Bay Watch’s Community Oyster Reef Enhancement (CORE) program is to increase the oyster population in Tampa Bay and at the same time, provide habitats for small organisms, prevent erosion, improve water quality and promote fish and wildlife habitats.

We will meet within MacDill Air Force Base. Driving directions will be emailed to you in a reminder message prior to the event. The minimum age to participate is 18 years old. You must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and car insurance to drive onto the base. We'll ask you for some personal info in the volunteer registration process: your full name, the state who issued your driver's license, driver's license number, & the expiration date of your driver's license for MacDill's security clearance.

Mission Statement

Tampa Bay Watch, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit stewardship program dedicated exclusively to the protection and restoration of the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs.

Description

Founded in 1993, we perform a variety of habitat restoration and protection activities throughout the year utilizing thousands of volunteers to help the bay recover from its environmental threats. Individuals of all ages from families, community groups, and schools participate in native grass plantings, oyster bar construction, coastal cleanups, and wildlife protection each year demonstrating environmental stewardship in its purest form. The efforts of Tampa Bay Watch to restore and protect the bay's habitat through stewardship provide effective long-term improvements to the bay and empower our community to counteract local environmental problems. Learning how to achieve and maintain a healthy environment is a legacy that will influence our children and future generations for years to come.
