- Purpose: The Communications Intern will support communications activities that help fulfill the Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. This position reports to the Chief Communications Officer of the American Red Cross Minnesota Region.
Responsibilities may vary depending upon the goals, skills, and interests of the intern as well as current priorities and projects in the Communications Department. These will primarily include:
- Developing and distributing media relations materials
- Producing written and visual social media content
- Supporting the Disaster Public Affairs volunteer team
- Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week
- Qualifications:
- Experience in writing and photography
- Interest in working with media professionals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Share an interest in the Red Cross and its humanitarian mission
- Ability to act as a Red Cross representative and spokesperson
- Training:
- On-the-job training
- Orientation to the American Red Cross
- Disaster Cycle Services Overview (Online)
- Public Affairs Essentials (Online)
- Other classes as appropriate to focus of internship
