At the end of each season, we hold a Celebratory 5k for the girls in our program. Throughout the 10-week program, the girls train to complete a 5k. This process teaches them about goal setting and working to achieve a goal. We have about 350 girls that travel from eight counties to complete the 5k together. Each girl has an adult Running Buddy that will be on the course with her at all times to encourage her and make sure she is safe.
Immediately before the 5k, we also hold an Expo for the girls to do activities (face painting, Happy Hair, rock painting, etc.) to get pumped up for the 5k. The event is family friendly and adds to the Celebration of what they have worked so hard for.
The event usually has over 1000 people in attendance and requires many volunteers to make it a success!
We need volunteers to help with course support, water stop, set up, clean up, registration, activities, etc.

Description
Girls on the Run International was established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina by Molly Barker. What started with thirteen girls in one school has grown to over 200 councils in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With the help of almost 100,000 volunteers, Girls on the Run served nearly 180,000 girls in 2015, including our millionth girl! Girls on the Run continues to grow and currently hosts more than 350 end-of-season 5K events across the United States, making the Girls on the Run 5K series the largest in the country. Girls on the Run has also expanded to include middle school girls through Heart & Sole, a program dedicated to the unique needs of adolescent girls.
Girls on the Run of Greater Susquehanna Valley was established in 2010. In our first season, 8 girls participated at 1 school. In 2016, we served nearly 800 girls, at 33 sites with almost 200 volunteer coaches. We are currently serving girls in seven counties, inlcuding Lycoming, Montour, Colombia, Northumberland, Snyder, Juniata and Union.
