Are you looking forward to shaking off the winter blues and getting active this spring? If so, sign up to volunteer with fellow fans of WGBH TV and Radio for WGBH’s Third Annual 5K: Run for Public Media. This is a fantastic opportunity to give back to your community and support WGBH!

WGBH’s Third Annual 5K: Run for Public Media begins at 11am on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The course travels through the DCR Artesani Park in Brighton and around the scenic Charles River.
Now it’s time to hit the starting line! You can register for a variety of roles. These roles encompass a wide array of skills and interests. These roles range from registering athletes and distributing information, to providing course side refreshments at water and food stations all while supporting WGBH!

Please review the volunteer position descriptions listed below and email WGBH Volunteer & Marketing Manager Jaime Reese at jaime_reese@wgbh.org if you’d like to help. Please make sure to include the following information in your email response:

- Preferred volunteer positions (top 3 in order of preference)


All volunteers should arrive for their shifts at DCR Artesani Park, 1255 Soldiers Field Rd., Brighton, MA 02135

Volunteer Position Descriptions and Shift Times:

Parking (Shift: 9am-2pm)

Facilitate folks getting on and off shuttle vans at the WGBH parking garage; greet runners and orient them to the registration table and bag check areas.

Bib Pick-up/Registration (Shift: 9-11:30am)

Hand out bibs to runners who have already registered; register last minute runners.

Bag Check (Shift: 9-11:30am)

Check in runners’ bags; oversee the area to maintain organization and safety of belongings.

Food Station Host (Shift: 10:30am-2pm)

Hand out drinks and food to runners as they finish the race; congratulate runners.

Photographer (Shift: 10:15am-2pm)

Take pictures of runners and the event; pictures will be used for social media purposes and photos will be uploaded on Facebook.

Be Curious George! (Shift: 10am-2pm)

Character Size Requirements: 5’1"-5’3", average build

Dress in Curious George costume and help engage with runners; hand out bananas at the end of the race.

Pep Squad/Course Assistant (Shift: 10am-2pm)

Keep up high energy to encourage runners along the course and cheer.

Water Station (Shift: 10am-1pm)

Hand out water at each mile marker on the course.
