NOCC

The NOCC's mission is to work tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer, and to improve the quality of life for survivors. Volunteers are needed for Massachusetts's 20th Annual Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer. The Massachusetts Chapter's 20th Annual 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer event increases awareness, honors those affected by ovarian cancer, and raises funds to support the NOCC's local and national programs.

This event, located on DCR Mother's Rest Area, Carson Beach, South Boston, draws 1,300+ runners, walkers, survivors, and their families. This fun awareness event and celebration of life, has something for everyone. There's music, food, a vendor tent with quality merchandise, NOCC Central where participants can find literature, symptom cards, and engage with NOCC staff, and a Survivor tent, where women in treatment and beyond, may find respite, refreshment, connect with their peers, and add their handprints to the growing banner of survivors. Lastly, the course is terrific - it runs along the shore, and is flat, fast and great for the experienced and beginner runners alike!

Volunteers are needed to help manage our designated tents, registration, set up, clean up, water stations, and much more!

Mission Statement

To fight tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer and to improve the quality of life for survivors and caregivers

Description

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, promoting education, and supporting ovarian cancer survivors and caregivers across the country. Since 1991, we have been educating communities from coast to coast about ovarian cancer and supporting survivors and caregivers of ovarian cancer.

For more than 31 years, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) has been at the forefront of ovarian cancer advocacy, providing critical support and resources to those affected by this devastating disease. With a regional approach covering the entire United States, we strive to ensure that anyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer has the programs, tools, and resources to survive and thrive. We are here for survivors and caregivers, reducing barriers to care and providing support regardless of their status or other identities.

Ovarian cancer as a disease may know no bounds, but credible disease information, programs, and resources do. Patients report difficulties in finding understandable information, and many experience significant barriers to diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life with an ovarian cancer diagnosis. The stress and anxiety related to these disparities can lead to poor health outcomes, and with nearly 80% of patients diagnosed in later stages due to a lack of an effective early detection test, more needs to be done to reduce barriers to care.
