ORGANIZATION: Chapters Health System (Hospice)

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Cornerstone Hospice. Please complete the enclosed volunteer application and send it back to me. Three references, to whom you are not related, with their complete addresses and phone numbers are needed. The references do not need to be local.

All volunteers are required to attend an 8-hour Volunteer Training Course. The training will give you and overview of Cornerstone Hospice and the volunteer opportunities. There will also be future trainings for ancillary programs such as Vigil, Pet Peace of Mind, Cornerstone Salutes!, Email me if you wish to attend training.

For the protection and safety of the volunteers, the patients and their loved ones, the tuberculosis screening test (TST) will be required for all volunteers with direct patient care. This will be administered during the volunteer training course, free of charge. If you previously tested positive for the current test indicates positive, a follow-up x-ray will be required. If you have had a recent TST or chest x-ray, please bring a copy of your results for your file.

A level 2 background screening which includes fingerprinting is also required for all volunteers with direct patient care.

I look forward to meeting you and having you as part of the Cornerstone Hospice team. The team includes all volunteers, whether they work directly with patients or in our offices or other areas. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call me at 407-514-8205 or toll free at 888-728-6234. If I’m not at my desk, please leave a message and I’ll return your call as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Kayla Lopes

About Chapters Health System (Hospice)

Location:

2445 Lane Park Road, Southridge Office, Tavares, FL 32778, US

Mission Statement

Cornerstone Hospice's mission is simple: Delivering extraordinary care to every person we touch in every community we serve. Volunteer opportunites are available throughout the seven Central Florida counties we serve: Hardee, Highlands, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk and Sumter, and now in Cobb County, Georgia. If you live in a neighboring county, you can still volunteer. However, all of your volunteer activities will take place in one of our seven counties, typically the one closest to you. PLEASE NOTE: Even if you are interested in several different volunteer roles within our organization, you only need to click on one opportunity during this process. You will have a chance to discuss ALL of your areas of interest during your volunteer training. Thanks!

Description

Cornerstone Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization, and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Cornerstone Hospice care.

Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much needed break. If direct care is not for you, you can assist with administrative tasks at our office locations, and help out with events and community outreach. Any Cornerstone Hospice volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their experience than they give.

PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers are required to go through a training class with additional training required for some positions. For this reason, becoming a Cornerstone Hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.
