About the Position:
New Beginnings currently has a need for legal advocacy volunteers during Wednesday evening Legal Clinic. Please consider using the skills and background you have in legal services to provide assistance to survivors of domestic violence seeking protection orders or help with family law questions.
About Our Organization:
New Beginnings provides support to anyone age 13+ experiencing intimate partner abuse and is committed to changing attitudes and social institutions that foster and perpetuate violence.
Position Details:
The position is responsible for preparing the clinic for attorneys and clients; providing support, information, and safety planning to clients; and conducting intake & exit interviews. We are looking for individuals who have a background in legal services and who are able to clearly communicate complex legal definitions to clients. Additionally, we are looking for volunteers who want to use their heart of compassion, ability for organization and research, and desire for change to make an impact on survivors of domestic violence - respecting their choices and values, and working as part of a larger team.
Training & Qualifications
20-hour advocacy training is required. We offer this training bi-annually for all new volunteers.
The upcoming Fall training will be held in Sept-October 2018.
After this comprehensive course, individual training is provided and we go at your desired pace. We ask that you have prior legal service, advocacy, or social services experience, a compassionate and non-judgmental outlook, and an openness to learn the Advocacy Based Counseling Model.
Open Shifts are Wednesday evenings, 6-9pm
