Volunteers in this position will be responsible for the walking of the shelter dogs. Volunteers must attend an orientation and training session to learn proper procedures on how to enter and exit kennels, leash up dogs, and walk properly and safely. There are several opportunities daily and volunteers are needed every day of the week. This is a great opportunity to help exercise and socialize the shelter dogs.

Mission Statement
The organization rescues animals and cares for them until they can find qualified homes.
Description
Serving Monroe County (IL) since 2002, Helping Strays is a shelter that rescues kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs. Helping Strays intakes animals regardless of age or medical condition, rehabilitating them if necessary, and providing them shelter, food, and medical care until they can find their forever homes. In 2017, Helping Strays adopted 598 animals back into the community. Since its start, the organization has helped 4,709 animals find their forever homes. Helping Strays works with other shelters, as well as the Monroe County Animal Control to take in animals. The shelter also takes strays found in the area and owner surrenders from anywhere. As the shelter does not euthanize for space, animals that come to the shelter are here until they can find their permanent homes.
