The Poverty Simulation is a great way to increase awareness of poverty in our community as well as inform participants on how they can better support the less advantaged in our community.
We are inviting individuals and small groups to volunteer for this event. Ideally, you should have experience with poverty or working with low income individuals and you must have the ability to understand directions, read and write and have basic math skills.
As a volunteer you will be assigned as a "Resource Provider" where you play the role of a resource service to the families in need played by the participants.
For example, some of the resources include:
Bank Teller - must be good with simple math and money
Employment Director - must be good with people and organized with paperwork
Social Service Agency - must be good with people
Pawn Shop Salesman - must be able to work a deal for items purchased
There is no cost to participate. Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the event as well as light breakfast items while training on the support role you will assume.
