Mission Statement
First Night's mission is to broaden and deepen the public's appreciation of the arts through an innovative, diverse and high quality program which offers the community a shared cultural experience that is accessible and affordable to all. In order to maximize the participation of people of all ages, First Night is a non-alcoholic event.
Description
Fulfilling First Night International's mission to "broaden and deepen the public's appreciation of the visual and performing arts through an innovative, diverse and high quality New Year's Eve program," First Night Saint Louis is turning Grand Center into a kaleidoscopic cornucopia of music, art, dance, and festivities. To picture a kaleidoscope as many parts coming together to create a new and vibrant picture is to envision the evening that lies ahead!
As a family friendly, alcohol free event, First Night is a one of a kind celebration that draws 10,000-15,000 people to Grand Ave. between Lindell and Delmar for entertainment and the traditional fireworks (9pm and 12am of course!).
The Kaleidoscope theme is inspiring us in many ways, the most obvious being a larger-than-life 24' walk through Kaleidoscope! We'll honor the multi-cultural aspect of the event with music and percussion from around the globe, and attendees will even have the chance to mark their "home" on a large world map. The tradition of making a wish for the New Year will be carried out as a stained glass (colored cellophane) window, and graffiti artists will be creating colorful art throughout the evening for all to watch.
