 Arrive at school 20-30 minutes ahead of first scheduled presentation to find classroom, set up
and test computer/screen connection and lay out paperwork. (Could also be done by Young
Adult Speaker.)
 After arriving at the classroom confirm with teacher beginning and ending times for each class
and arrange to have a clock or watch in view. Determine ending time for Powerpoint, YA story,
Q&A session leaving time to complete evaluation forms.
 Introduce self and young adult speaker, establishing credentials as "lived experience" - brief
 Show PowerPoint with appropriate comments or short stories to reinforce the point of each
slide or video (as time allows). Reintroduce young adult speaker to tell their personal story.
 Ask YA speaker to fill out Presentation summary, including their contact information (this form
necessary in order to generate stipend.)
 Assist YA with Q&A period by answering some of the questions and awarding candy to students.
The latter can also be done by YA speaker.
 Call an end to Q&A session and assist YA with handing out evaluation forms and NAMI contact
sheets (page 2 of the evals).
 Assist YA in collecting completed evaluations and offering mood pencils. (These should always
be handed out after the presentation. Otherwise, they are too tempting to play with instead of
paying attention.)
 Return all completed and unused paperwork plus the computer and rolling cart to NAMI office
within a few days (be aware of next presentation date when others will need the materials). This
can also be done by the YA speaker if arranged in advance.
 Assist Program Coordinator in training rehearsals, if requested.
