Bread for the City's orchard coordinator interns will work under Bread for the City's Sustainable Agriculture Manager. Interns will support the following efforts related to Bread for the City's three-acre orchard:
* Maintaining relationships and communication with City Orchard farm contractors and the University of the District of Columbia
* Coordinating orchard workdays
* Generating work plans for volunteers
* Training volunteers and leading volunteer groups at orchard
* Assessing operational needs and ordering supplies
* Recording the results of farm-to-food pantry efforts
* Other duties as assigned
We'd love to hear from you if you have some or all of the following:
* Farm Experience or Food Justice Advocacy Experience
* Knowledge of ecological farming, agrarian communities, culinary knowledge, and homesteading knowledge
* Excellent communication and administrative skills
* Experience working with volunteers
* Strong work ethic
* Willingness to perform physical tasks that are sometimes strenuous in various weather settings
* Knowledge of plants and general tool maintenance
* Willingness to learn
This is an unpaid internship. Individuals who can serve for multiple months at a time preferred.
