Intern Title: Awareness Programs Intern

Time Commitment: Up to 20 hours per week

Internship Description:

The Awareness Programs Intern supports the Manager, Awareness and Professional Programs in a number of facets related to the National Stroke Association’s awareness programs and campaigns. Projects will be designed to give the student hands-on experience in program coordination and will vary depending upon exact business needs and time of year.

Impact of Internship:

This internship will provide a student with opportunities to gain real-world experience in health education program coordination, establishing partnerships, data management and assessment, and other elements of nonprofit programming. While providing assistance on the development and expansion of national awareness campaigns and programs, such as National Stroke Awareness Month, RAISE Awards, and FAST Program-in-a-Box, the intern will learn skills and knowledge to carry forward in their career and work product that could be included in a portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data management and assessment for programs including FAST Program-in-a-Box and RAISE Awards
  • Identify areas for expansion of existing programming, especially potential partnerships for FAST Program-in-a-Box
  • Program development and implementation - participate in the collaborative development of our National Stroke Awareness Month campaign for 2018

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

  • Candidate must be completing upper-level undergraduate or graduate-level coursework in public health, health education, nonprofit management, or similar field
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • General MS Office skills including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; familiarity with Access a plus
  • High comfort level with computer, database systems, telephone, and other office equipment
