Test results show that 60 percent of Philadelphia’s 4th graders are not proficient in reading.
Let’s change that together.
Philly Reading Coaches is helping students in grades K-3 become better, motivated, and confident readers.
Committed volunteers - who can be as young as 16 - will spend a minimum of one hour once a week reading with a student, helping them gain confidence in their reading abilities and discover the love of reading.
Beginning in January 2024, PRC will re-launch in 5 selected Community School OST programs, and we need caring, committed volunteers like you! Visit http://ost.phila.gov/philly-reading-coaches/ for more details.

Description
PHILLY READING COACHES is an early literacy program based on proven models that combines early reading support, access to books, and community volunteers to boost the reading skills of our city’s children. The program works by pairing trained volunteers with young students - kindergarten through 3rd grade, and by providing fun and child-guided reading experiences that help build reading skills and motivation. Each child in the program also receives 25 free books to take home.
