Test results show that 60 percent of Philadelphia’s 4th graders are not proficient in reading.
Let’s change that together.
Philly Reading Coaches is helping students in grades K-3 become better, motivated and confident readers.
Committed volunteers - who can be as young as 14 years old - will spend a minimum of one hour once a week reading with a student, helping them to gain confidence in their reading abilities and discover the love of reading.
Last school year we paired over 500 youth with Reading Coaches, providing fun and child-guided reading experiences that help build reading skills and motivation.
In Fall 2019, we will be expanding to 30 school district, recreation center, library and PAL center sites and we need caring, committed volunteers like you!
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Developing a shared, inclusive and coordinated OST system to help us reach ambitious goals on behalf of our young people.
PHILLY READING COACHES is a new program, based on proven models, that combines early reading support, access to books, and community volunteers to boost reading skills for our city’s children. The program works by pairing trained volunteers with young students - kindergarten through 3rd grade, and by providing fun and child-guided reading experiences that help build reading skills and motivation. Each child in the program also receives 25 free books to take home.
We'll work with your schedule.
