Become a Tower Hill Botanic Garden Docent!

2019 Docent Training
A docent is a volunteer who is specially trained to lead educational garden tours to Tower Hill visitors. If you have an interest in plants, gardens and Tower Hill you can train to become a docent! We will supply all of the information you need including sample tours. You will have the opportunity to shadow other docents until you feel ready to lead your own tour.

Who should apply?
Becoming a docent is an exciting learning experience and a great way to meet new people. If you enjoy working with people, teaching, plants gardening or nature you should consider becoming a Toer Hill docent.
Training
There are four mandatory general docent tour training sessions beginning in March 2019 as well as specially themed training sessions throughout the year.

You must attend all four mandatory docent training sessions in March & April to become a docent. Don’t worry if you can’t make the weekday trainings; this year we have added Saturday training dates as well!

2019 Mandatory Docent Training Sessions:

Wednesday, 3/13 or Saturday, 3/16

Wednesday, 3/20 or Saturday, 3/23

Wednesday, 3/27 or Saturday, 3/30

Active docents will receive an invitation to the volunteer appreciation event, complimentary admission to specific educational lectures on a space available basis, access to exclusive docent resources in the Tower Hill Library, invites to behind the scenes tours at other non-profits such as deCordova Museum and Berkshire Botanic Garden and an invitation to the annual docent thank you tea. When you have completed 50 volunteer hours, including docent training you will receive a complimentary Individual Tower Hill membership,

Time Commitment
Docents lead both drop-in and group tours. Drop in tours take place Saturdays & Sundays from 2-2:45pm and are included with admission. Group tours last 45 minutes to an hour and are available for a fee to groups by request Tuesdays-Sundays, between 10am-4pm.
