About Community Counseling & Mediation Services (CCM)

Location:

810 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238, US

Mission Statement

Community Counseling & Mediation's mission is to heal old scars and the present pain and problems facing New York City's poverty-stricken youth and families. Using a variety of innovative and effective interventions overseen by skilled professionals, we focus on extremely troubled youngsters and their families wherein violence, child abuse, juvenile delinquency, and substance abuse are prevalent. Unique among most community-based service providers, we utilize a mental health based approach in all of our programs, emphasizing inherent family and community strengths. We do not believe in bandages; we believe in the possibilities of essential, positive change.

Description

Community Counseling & Mediation (CCM) is a neighborhood-based counseling agency providing a range of social welfare, health, education, vocational, and supportive housing services to at-risk children, youth and families. Founded in 1982 with a mission to respond to the many problems facing poor African American and Latino adolescents and their families, CCM has since evolved into one of the very few NYC organizations combining culturally sensitive mental health services with a range of educational, health and social activities. Our current programming includes: youth development, foster care prevention, conflict resolution training, mental health services, foster care and adoption, substance abuse treatment, supportive housing, and counseling services to crime victims. CCM operates in seven sites throughout central Brooklyn, and one site in Midtown Manhattan.
