Students compete at Hawaii State

Volunteer judges to work with high school students as they perform their prepared speeches for United States Academic Decathlon competition state meet in Hawaii. No experience needed as judges will be trained. Judges work in pairs or groups of three to evaluate the speeches and use a prepared rubric to judge. Scores are averaged. In addition, there is an interview process where judges ask prepared questions to ascertain student's interview skills and poise.

USAD is the premier academic competition in the United States...and the world. Competitions are held throughout the United States, Canada, UK, China etc.

If you recently saw the movie Spiderman: Homecoming, you will remember that Peter Parker AKA Spiderman was an academic decathlete!

Description

The United States Academic Decathlon (r) is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students.

Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students (3.750 - 4.00 GPA), 3 "B" or Scholastic students (3.00 - 3.749 GPA), and 3 "C or below" Varsity students (0.00 - 2.999 GPA).

The theme for the 2015-2016 Academic Decathlon (r) is India.
