Project Open Hand’s mission is to nourish and engage our community by providing meals with love to the sick and the elderly. Our Wellness Programs focus on serving people who are sick and need nutritious food to support their medical treatment. The program is available to residents of San Francisco and Alameda County, who qualify based on a primary diagnosis and symptoms.
We are seeking skilled bilingual volunteers to translate forms, handouts and materials from English to Chinese and/or Spanish for clients participating the Wellness Programs. The volunteer must be comfortable translating written English into Chinese or Spanish, and ensuring each document has good grammar and punctuation.
This project may be completed off-site, and may take an hour or two to complete, depending on the content, with turnaround time of 5-7 days.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in written Spanish or Chinese
- Maintain agency confidentiality
- Able to work independently
- Available on an on-call basis
Time Commitment:
Based on project, on average two hours per project

Mission Statement
Project Open Hand provides food and nourishment to improve the quality of life for the men, women and children it serves. Project Open Hand programs include: meal, grocery and nutrition counseling for people with symptomatic HIV and AIDS; congregate lunch and nutrition education for people over 60 years of age; meal service for homebound and critically ill people under the age of 60. Services are available to eligible clients living in San Francisco and Alameda counties.
Description
Founded in 1985, Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and seniors. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives.
Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco and Oakland, engaging more than 125 volunteers daily to nourish our community.
