Overview of Role: In 2017 we opened our Senior Grocery Market at the Northwest (Rockford) Center to provide nutritious food to seniors in need, according to our research on priority counties in northern Illinois. The program grew as the word spread, and now averages about 250 clients every other week. Our volunteers for these Markets allow us to continue to grow these programs, feeding even more of our northern Illinois neighbors. Each Market needs approximately 15-25 volunteers in order to serve these populations most effectively.

Responsibilities: Available volunteer roles are chosen the day of the shift, and include assisting in registration, handing out food, restocking the food carts, and managing the carts as clients move to and from their cars.

Requirements: Interested volunteers should be comfortable interacting with others and must wear closed-toe shoes in order to participate.

Age: Volunteers should be at least 13 years old. Any volunteers under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Time Commitment: Volunteer shifts last from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Specific Days: The Senior Grocery Market operates every 1st and 3rd Thursday morning of each month.

Training Required: Volunteers will receive a brief overview of Market operations as well as instructions on how to carry out their chosen role.
