Sights & Sounds Museum

The NEXT Steps Junior Archivist Training Program is offering youth and young adults (ages 11-24) the opportunity to serve as junior hosts of all Black History events at the Sights & Sounds Black Cultural Museum every weekend during the month of February (5 community service hours).

Hosting Responsibilities include:

  • Helping hosts set up the museum before each event and cleaning up the museum after the event.
  • Making sure visitors sign in
  • Distributing programs and other hand outs (if available)
  • Ensuring exhibits are cleaned, dusted, inventoried and properly arranged
  • Ensuring guests have an enjoyable experience
  • Assisting the curator with guided tours
  • Managing orientation, vendor setup and breakdown
  • Assisting each event host with any additional tasks and event management support
  • Taking photos of significant event activities
  • Writing blog posts
  • Interviewing and filming the event as well as the hosts, visitors and special guests
  • Uploading all digital media content to the NEXT Steps and Sights and Sounds websites and social media accounts.
STEM Education
The goal of this volunteer opportunity is to also help youth and young adults increase their STEM skills. By participating in our Junior Archivist program, students will earn our Arts, A/V Technologies & Communications and Film, Digital Media & Entertainment digital badges which will verify their increased skills in:
  • Audio production (including music mixing & recording)
  • Coding/3D printing
  • Computer maintenance and repair
  • Digital photography/graphic design
  • Filmmaking & videography
  • Maker Faires/hack-a-thons
  • Mobile & game app development
  • Programming
  • Robotics
  • Web site design

In order to reduce the negative impact of poverty, The NEXT Steps Youth Entrepreneur Program created The Community On Demand STEAM Education & Life Skills Development Game to help disenfranchised individuals develop the life & high-demand STEAM skills needed to create, secure and retain employment and career-building opportunities located within their local communities.

Imagine a learning management system that uses STEAM education, financial literacy, blockchain technology, entertainment and entrepreneurship to reduce the negative impact of poverty.

The Community On Demand STEAM Education & Life Skills Development Game is a veteran led, STEAM edtech transitional training and staffing solutions platform whose collective impact initiatives create community involvement growth strategies that maximize engagement, generate wealth, and strengthens STEAM skills in order to build sustainable, purpose-built communities.

We focus on five key achievement domains to help communities benefit from the impact solutions that Community On Demand helps learners create as they address, reduce and/or eliminate the socio-economic conditions negatively impacting their communities:
