ORGANIZATION: VILLAGES NW - METRO

  • 22 people are interested

Since our first Village opened with 30 members 2 years ago, we have grown to 439 members and provided more than 2,500 services in 2017. With this growth, a number of volunteers are needed to share the financial management workload to make it feasible for volunteers.

You would work remotely using your own computer and on your own schedule aligned with accounting deadlines under the supervision of a member of the Board of Directors and an accounting professional.

Your responsibilities would include one or more of the following tasks depending on your availability and the skills you wish to contribute: day-to-day management of accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank transfers. Formal accounting skills are not required but volunteers should be familiar with financial business operations.

The ideal volunteers would be organized, have good computer skills, strong attention to detail and be highly trustworthy. Interested candidates should contact Interim Treasurer, Charlie Meyer at treasurer@villagesnw.org for additional details.

About VILLAGES NW - METRO

Location:

PO BOX 33642, PORTLAND, OR 97292, US

Mission Statement

Villages NW is reshaping the experience of aging. We keep older adults connected and active, contributing members of the community. With 11 neighborhood-based virtual villages, seniors make new friends close to home, participate in online coffees, happy hours and other social activities. We also help each other out when needed with neighbor-to-neighbor home maintenance, yard work and errands.

Description

The Village Movement is a holistic approach to vibrant, healthy aging. It combines a meaningful purpose in life; finding new friends as we begin to lose spouses and see less of long-time friends and neighbors; familiar surroundings; and preserving financial assets against the day when a higher level of care might be necessary. In addition to these quality of life issues, Villages fill gaps in support and services, which enable older adults to live independently.
We have 11 neighborhood-based villages with 600 members and a comparable number of volunteers in the Greater Portland Metro area. About half of our volunteers are also members.
Villagers are members rather than clients. About half volunteer in some way whether it is driving someone to the doctor, doing a little yard work, checking in with a member who is mostly homebound, working on activities or doing Village support.
