FRIENDS OF THE FAIRFAX STATION INC

Fairfax Station RR Museum
Fairfax County's "Little Gem"

Docents are needed to assist with museum operations and activities on open days. Duties include assisting with opening/closing, meeting visitors, interpreting exhibits, assisting with special activities/programs, and staffing our admissions table or gift shop. Admissions and gift shop duties include preparing opening/closing cash balances and recording sales. New volunteers will be provided orientation and training.

The events, programs and exhibits at the museum focus on railroads in northern Virginia, the importance of Fairfax Station during the Civil War and life at a small railroad community. Knowledge of these areas is not necessary but an interest in local history is a plus. Current volunteers will help newcomers learn about the subject areas covered.

Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with visitors ranging in age from pre-K to seniors.

We are open primarily on Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00. Volunteers should report no later than 12:30 and be prepared to stay until 4:15 to close out activities.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome (minimum age of 16, please). Families interested in volunteering as a group also are encouraged to consider our museum. This is a great place for local history buffs and railfans.
