Fairfax Station RR Museum
Fairfax County's "Little Gem"

Docents are needed to assist with museum operations and activities on open days. The museum offers a unique opportunity to give back to the community by helping to preserve local history in a family-friendly setting.

Duties include assisting with opening/closing, meeting visitors, interpreting exhibits, assisting with special activities/programs, and staffing our admissions table or gift shop. Admissions and gift shop duties include preparing opening/closing cash balances and recording sales. New volunteers will be provided orientation and training.

The events, programs and exhibits at the museum focus on railroads in northern Virginia, the importance of Fairfax Station during the Civil War and life at a small railroad community. Knowledge of these areas is not necessary but an interest in local history is a plus.

Volunteers should be comfortable with visitors ranging in age from pre-K to seniors. If you are a "people person," this is the place for you!

We generally are open only on Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00. Volunteers should report no later than 12:30 and be prepared to stay until 4:15 to close out activities. We also have events periodically with extended hours. We are not open on weekdays.

The Fairfax Station Railroad Museum follows current federal, state and local guidance regarding COVID-19.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome (minimum age of 16, please). Families interested in volunteering as a group also are encouraged to consider our museum. This is a great place for local history buffs and railfans.
