C’mon and volunteer to teach people in your community how to speak English. This is a great opportunity for retired teachers or folks who’re working on their teaching certification.
We need volunteers for our Spring 2020 semester, which begins on January 27th and lasts until April 11th. We have several classes for beginners to advanced learners, Level Basic through Level 4. We prefer bi-lingual Spanish speaking volunteers for some of the Basic and Level 1 classes. We strive to have 2 co-teachers per class.
What We Need from You:
- A knack for public speaking
- Ability to lead classroom instruction solo
- While we do strive to have 2 co-teachers per classroom, we can’t guarantee that you’ll have a co-teacher - Ability to volunteer once a week for 2.5 hours starting from Jan. 27th - April 11th
- Absences are alright, as long as you’re able to volunteer most of the time
* Teaching experience is not a requirement, but a plus!
What You’ll Receive from Us:
- Structured curriculum
- Teaching supplies
- Teacher and Student Books
- Ongoing trainings/workshops throughout the Spring 2020 semester
If you’re ready to make a difference and are willing to commit to teaching people how to speak English, then you can volunteer in 2 easy steps:
1) Sign up for a volunteer shift: https://volunteersignup.org/FAPHL (scroll down to "ELL")
2) Fill out a volunteer application form: dallaslibrary.org/volunteer.php (Choose "Adult Learning Teacher" and type the library name in the box at the bottom.)
