Do you like history? Volunteer in the Bill Stein Texas Room to preserve the history of Colorado County, Texas.

The Nesbitt Memorial Library's Bill Stein Texas Room collection includes photographs, newspapers, microfilm, sound recordings, film, maps, and books that document the history of Columbus, Colorado County and the state of Texas. The Bill Stein Texas Room is seeking a volunteer interested in scanning photographs and other documents for the Texas Room's online database as well as assistance with data entry and inventory projects. Knowledge of Colorado County's history is not necessary.

Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities:

Scanning Photographs--requires the volunteer to scan and create records for scanned items in the Library's catalog. Volunteers will operate within best practice guidelines for archives to ensure the photographs are not damaged by the scanning process. Training will be provided.

Scanning Antique documents to create a digital record.

Uploading images from scanned High School Year Books to Flickr.

Assisting Patrons with using Ancestry.com

General Requirements: Computer literacy, especially knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of Photoshop is a plus!

Work: on-site, during the Texas Room's normal business hours
Hours: To be arranged with Susan Chandler, Director.
