English in Action. Meet once a week, for one hour, with a Stanford international student, spouse, or visiting scholar. We prefer a one-year commitment. However, many visiting scholars are at Stanford for shorter times. The students are primarily from China, Japan, South Korea, and other Asian countries. Initial meetings must take place at the Bechtel International Center. No lesson plans, no tests. This is for conversation, friendship, and cultural support only. Many lifelong cross-cultural friendships have started with this program, now in its 65th year at Stanford. CCIS membership and an in-person pre-interview are required, but there are no membership fees and we are really nice! No ESL experience required. See us at www.CCISstanfordU.org
