About:

We are a small faith-based organization that cares for orphans in Cameroon, Africa and develops leaders around the world. We are looking for an author/writer to help us write content stories for our hard copy newsletters about 4 times per year (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter), write stories for our e-newsletters each month, and help us increase our blog writing on our website bi-monthly. This volunteer will work closely with our Program Coordinator for updates, story suggestions, proof reading, prioritization of topics, etc. Previous experience is a must and we will ask for examples of other written content you have created.

Details:

• 5-10 hours a week for at least 6 months
• Must be located in Austin, TX but writing can be done from home
• Flexible according to your schedule

Key Requirements:

• Professional writing and editing experience
• High level of organizational skill, ability to multi-task and work with hard deadlines
• Able to manage a monthly or yearly project from start to completion
• Able to work with other members of team to communicate expectations, goals, deadlines, etc. as well as receive feedback and suggestions
• Attention to detail, especially in editing, proofing.
• Proficient computer skills-use of Word, emailing, Internet, Wordpress blogs/sites, Mail Chimp, Facebook, and Instagram.
• Personal commitment to the Christian faith, inspiring and empowering others, and to the mission of Shaping Destiny.

Duties May Include:

• Collect stories as shared by Program Coordinator and pitch ideas for what should be written about when and in what format (email, hard copy, blog, etc.)
• Plan, organize, edit and write the content. This may be in part or in entirety.
• Choose images as given by organization for specific stories.
• Work with graphic designer and Program Coordinator on content, layout, colors, photos.
• Implement SEO for online blog content.
• Promote blogs and email newsletters through organization's social media.
