Interpretation/Translation Volunteer at Catholic Migration Services
Our Immigration program seeks volunteers to provide translation and interpretation services. Our greatest need is for persons who are bilingual in Spanish and English. This is a great opportunity for foreign language students looking to practice their language skills over the summer!
Volunteer activities:
- Provide language interpretation services in our office. Both consecutive interpretation and
- simultaneous interpretation skills are welcome.
- Assist in our weekly Housing Intake Clinics every other Tuesday from 11-5pm by interpreting
- attorney-client meetings and providing general support to staff attorneys
- Translate foreign language documents into English. Examples of typical documents include birth certificates, affidavits, diplomas or degrees from foreign institutions, medical records, and foreign language news articles.
- Training will be provided. All services will be supervised by a staff attorney. For those who need to report pro bono hours, we will track the number of hours worked.
- Must be fluent in a second language to provide interpretation and translation services. Spanish- English skills are in greatest demand. Court certification is not required.
- Commit to at least 3 housing intake clinics which take place every other Tuesday from 11-5 p.m. in our Queens office
