ORGANIZATION: Qeyno Group

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 7 people are interested

Our volunteers include seasoned and fresh entrepreneurs, industry professionals, community organizers, concerned citizens, youth and parents who are all passionate about solving some of the most difficult problems facing our society today.

Volunteers help with tasks like registration, set up & clean up, social media and various team needs.

If you are not a Designer, Developer or Innovator, but still want to help out, sign up to be a volunteer! Our volunteers will be a critical part of the event's success, while having the opportunity to experience the hackathon from the inside.

Shifts (most range from 4-6 hours) are based on each volunteer's availability, so no worries if you're not able to commit to the entire weekend.

Hacking Alienation

#DREAMerHack is the next Hackathon Academy by Qeyno that will once again invite Bay Area youth to solve the world’s biggest problems through a three-day immersive experience with coding, design, and innovation.

Bay Area youth and mentors will work together to build "sanctuary" apps to address the growing insecurities and safety-risks for those affected by forced displacement, whether it be deportation, loss of stable housing, or natural disasters such as hurricanes or fires.

In the tradition of the hackers who conducted the Underground Railroad, #DREAMerHack is focused on "hacking alienation". Youth will become Trailblazers alongside their mentors and identify innovative ways to help others find their way towards freedom.

Mission Statement

Qeyno’s mission is to lift barriers to human potential to meet the ultimate challenges of the future.

Description

Launched in 2013 in the wake of the Trayvon Martin American tragedy, Qeyno (then Qeyno Labs) took a leap forward from software development to moonshot a hackathon experience with Startup Weekend that would address the question, "Could an app have saved Trayvon Martin?"

After the groundbreaking success of the first hackathon for Black Male Achievement in Oakland (CA), Qeyno created a pop-up school experience that modified the traditional hackathon model to make it accessible to low opportunity youth and a healthy environment for all youth.

Hackathon Academy has served clients from celebrities such as Prince to nationwide initiatives like President Obama's My Brother's Keeper call-to-action. As our pop-up school model is replicated by companies and organizations across the globe, Hackathon Academy continues to be the home for teen hackers solving the world's biggest problems.
