We are looking for volunteers to help low-wage service workers learn English!
Teaching Aides will assist the instructor, often working with small groups or individual students to provide extra support.
The class is a fun environment where low-wage workers, many of whom have had little formal education, have a chance to better their English Skills, allowing them to feel more confident in their work and in navigating life in the U.S. In turn, volunteers with BSP receive a training and acquire skills in teaching ESL, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area.
Volunteer Skill Requirements:
- Patience, enthusiasm, and respect for other cultures
- Dependability and flexibility
- Spanish speaking skills and teaching experience helpful, but not required
Help the teacher with language learning activities by working with small groups of students. Commitment to volunteer in the great majority of Saturday classes offered for the 4-month duration of the course.
Times: Saturdays from 9:30am-11:30am. Classes will begin February 3, 2018 and run through May 19, 2018.
Location: 1010 Ruff Drive, San Jose, CA 95110.
Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will receive training and acquire skills in teaching Citizenship, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area communities. BSP is a registered 501(c)(3) and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling a community service requirement.
