Description of Project:
The Sierra Club has created the Mass. Local Climate Leadership Project in order to educate and empower local (municipal) elected officials to take action in their own communities and on Beacon Hill, to protect our air, our water, and our lands. Protecting the environment means protecting communities, and safeguarding public health. This initiative will provide training and guidance to local elected officials about what more they can do. From implementing community choice energy, to divesting from fossil fuels, to setting aggressive 100% renewable energy mandates, local officials can give the people what they want: clean energy, climate justice, and a livable planet.

Mission Statement
To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.
Description
Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization - with more than 2.7 million members and supporters. Our successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, we've made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy. Here in Massachusetts, we have an over 45-year legacy of protecting the environment with successful legislative, advocacy, and educational campaigns.
