Family Hospice

Hospice volunteers are ordinary people, of all ages and from all walks of life, with an extraordinary love and a passionate concern for others. They contribute to the overall well being of our community one person, one family at a time. Volunteers help Family Hospice and those we serve in many ways - and are limited only by their imagination.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Patient/family companionship in patients' homes or senior communities
  • Assisting in development planning efforts, including fundraising events
  • Bereavement support
  • Office administrative support
  • Reiki and Healing Touch
  • All patient volunteers receive training and orientation. Training programs are offered at various locations and times, i.e., evenings or weekends, to accommodate the busy schedules of our diverse volunteer population.
  • Volunteer training is free.

Mission Statement

The mission of Family Hospice and Palliative Care is to provide compassionate, quality comfort care that enhances the lives of people with life-limiting illness and their families. We are a non-profit organization that is entrusted to provide end-of-life care to more patients in Western Pennsylvania than any other hospice. For those experiencing a life-limiting illness or injury, Family Hospice and Palliative Care provides a complete continuum of care unlike any other hospice in the region. Family Hospice and Palliative Care is the leading not-for-profit, community-based hospice and palliative care organization in Western Pennsylvania. Our heritage of expert, compassionate care leads to the innovation that is setting the standards for the future of hospice and palliative care.

Description

Begun in 1980, we are an independent, community-based hospice with a history of providing expert, compassionate care, a comprehensive continuum of end-of-life care to hundreds of patients each day. We have the area's largest staff of Board-certified palliative care physicians. Our team of caregivers also includes certified nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and certified nursing assistants with training and certification in hospice and palliative care, as well as licensed clinical social workers.
