Volunteer Match Job description - Drop In Center Program Assistant

Detroit Phoenix Center empowers youth and young adults by providing them with emotional support, resources for basic needs and tangible tools for a fresh start. Services include


  • A asset based resource center that provides job search support, food, laundry and shower facilities, social emotional learning opportunities, life skills/educational workshops and wellness and risk reduction resources through our partners

Detroit Phoenix Centers’ Asset Based Resource Center provides basic needs assistance to homeless and vulnerable youth and young adults ages 13-25. The Center provides access to food, bus tickets, hygiene, clothing, laundry and shower facilities, as well as programs focusing on employment, education, independent living skills and social support services.


Program Assistants at the Resource Center build relationships that provide assistance and encouragement to the youth and young adults and supervise and support clients as they work to achieve their goals. PAs participate in client orientations and programs and help clients navigate on-line job applications and job websites. They also assist staff with day-to-day center management including providing clients access to the kitchen, shower, laundry and computers and distribute hygiene supplies when needed.

This position requires the following skills: Case Work / Management, Counseling / Mental Health, Crisis Counseling, Critical Thinking, People Skills

All volunteers are required to participate in a 2-day volunteer training. The first volunteer training dates are on July 9 and 11
